Korina Solomonova with friends

This is a picture from an excursion in the Karandila region, Stara Planina Mountain, near Sliven. The photo was taken in the summer of 1940. I am in the second row, the second from right among the people who are standing. My sister Luisa Alhalel, nee Solomonova, is the third from the left in the first row. The people in the photo are high school students, most of them Jews. From 1940-1944 the Jews in Sliven were allowed to leave the town. During the time of the photo my sister and I were studying in the Sliven high school. We were members of the Union of Young Workers. We took part in anti-fascist activities.
