David Kalef in work overalls

David Kalef in work overalls

This is David Kalef in work overalls during World War II. When the Germans came he was forced to clean the ruins from the bombings. Either the Germans distributed these clothes or he got them some other way. Anyway, the picture was taken once he was already cleaning the ruins in Belgrade after the bombings. We never saw him after this. David was my granduncle Jakov Kalef's son. I adored him. He was a little older than I was. We lived next door to one another and it was like he was my brother. We were always together. We played together. We grew up together.
