This is a photo of my wife Regina Molhova, nee Geron, with our little son Benedict Molhov. The photo was taken in Sofia in 1942.
The photo was takenshortly before a priest forced us to leave our home. At that time I worked as an accountant in a wine company, where my wife's father Nissim Geron was chief accountant. He arranged this job for me and while I was in the labor camps, they kept my place until 1943 and every time I returned, I worked there. Between 1941 and 1944 I was mobilized to labor camps three times. My wife and her mother looked after our son. Life was very hard then.
My wife, her parents and our son were interned to the town of Chirpan in 1943. There she came down with a serious form of diabetes and our son fell ill with heavy dysentery. They lived in very poor conditions. They were accommodated in the rooms of the local school and survived only thanks to the care of my wife's parents.
