Ilona Seifert in an operetta

Ilona Seifert in an operetta

This is me in an end-of-the-year performance at the Utasi Dance School. The photo was taken in Budapest in the mid-1930s.

I was around fourteen years old when I went to Gizi Utasi's school to study dance and acrobatics for a few years. I always loved gymnastics, and loved going there. At the end of the year, there always was a performance in the operetta-theatre of the capital, in which the students sang and danced. There were at least ten or twelve of us in the class. We had beautiful clothes for the end-of-the-year performance. Our group consisted of girls only, as the boys went into a separate group.
