The bakery and grocery shop of Ilona Seifert's paternal grandfather Bernat Riemer

My paternal grandparents , the Riemers, at their grocery shop in Budapest. My grandfather and grandmother are standing in the doorway on the left. The photo is from the 1920s. Next to grandfather's bakery was a shop where he sold different kinds of breads, baker's wares, and all kinds of other foodstuffs. They made challah there, too. Besides this, grandfather had a soda-water workshop. Bernat Riemer, my father's father, was a wealthy business man. He taught all his sons the bakery trade. He said it was a very good trade, because no matter what the world came to, people would always be needing bread and water. All of his three sons became bakers, and even his five daughters had to work in the shop. They had to learn to tend the counter in the shop, and they worked there until they got married. Two girls were always in the shop. Grandmother also worked in the shop, and usually sat at the cash till.
