Ignac and Ilona Izsak

Ignac and Ilona Izsak

This photo was taken in Budapest sometime in the 1930s. These are my father's oldest brother, Ignac Izsak and his wife and niece at the same time, Ilona Steiner. I don't know who took the picture and on what occasion, but it is a good one. Aunt Ilus wasn't only taller than her husband, but she was a respectable member of the entire family. As a woman, she was the managing clerk of a bank, true, not a big one, and her siblings asked her opinion not only in financial matters, but also about the children's career, or even when it came to choosing a partner. Ignac, Uncle Naci, was as joyful in real life as he looks in the picture, he was good humored, he cracked a lot of jokes, especially with children, and he stepped behind his wife with a half step in real life, too. But in the stationer's shop and the rental library he was the boss - and the 'servant' at the same time.
