Jeanette Torok

Jeanette Torok

This is a photo of my maternal grandmother, taken in Vienna, Austria in the 1890s. When this picture was taken, Jeanette Gluck was probably getting ready to get married. Perhaps she didn't know it yet that she was going to be Dezso Torok's wife, but she knew that she was going to open a shoe store in Budapest with her husband. She gathered professional experience and her dowry for this in Vienna. She probably bought part of her rig-out in Vienna, the Japonese patterned tea set and the Carlsbad dinner service, which she later kept, until 1944, in the dining room glass-cupboard and on a small table with a glass top.
