Erika Izsak and her cousin, Tamas Biro, on the MIKEFE grounds

This photo was taken in Budapest in 1942. I am standing on the HICAA grounds with my nephew, Tamas, or Tomi Biro, next to the biggest greenhouse, the carnation house. But they didn't only grow carnations in it. Its official name was Klein house, it was named after Mrs. Gyula Klein, the vice president of the HICAA, who, as far as I know, contributed to the establishing of the greenhouse with a big amount of money. This is the same building and the same place where Tomi can be seen in another picture. Three years passed in the meantime, the situation of the Jewry and of the HICAA got much worse. In the previous picture there are rose-trees all along the building, in the middle the nice oval basin can be seen (Miklos, the turtle lived in this). In 1942 the HICAA couldn't afford to take care of its own garden.
