This is the engagement picture of my parents, Mair and Lora Benvinisti, nee Ilel. The photo was taken in Plovdiv in 1921.
My parents met in Plovdiv. At first, my mother wanted to marry another Mair who was richer than my father, but my father ?snatched? her and she accepted. My mother had short hair and she wore a long dress with a white collar.
I remember that my mother used to sew sheets and clothes that were sold in the shops after that. She didn't get enough money at all - they used her as a cheap labor force- but she had to work to help my father, who was a shoemaker.
