Mathilda Beraha in Casablanca

This is a picture of my mother, Mathilda Beraha, taken in Casablanca, Morocco, in 1919. I can't really tell which one she is but she wouldn't be sitting in the front row as she was shy.

My mother was born in Thessaloniki in 1898. Her mother tongue was Ladino. She was beautiful, a brunette, and combed her hair in a modern way; she went to the hairdresser’s and did lots of different things with it. She always dressed according to the latest fashion.

My mother lived in Paris from 1910 to 1915 where she studied to become a teacher, and then worked for a year in Casablanca, Morocco. After that she never worked as a teacher again.
