Mariann Szamosi as a young woman with relatives

This picture was taken at the Nagykoros house, in the courtyard in front of the warehouse. This is a very special picture for me, because all these loved ones live on in my memories like they did here. In 1941, my father's business went under, here there's this big machine, maybe a farm machine. On the far left is Ilona Rosenfeld, Aunt Ilona, my aunt. Next comes a cousin, who lived in Italy, who's husband died in a car accident. Then, in the white frill, is my grandmother, Mrs. Hermina Sebestyen, smiling, very sweetly, that's most characteristic of how I remember her. My mother is leaning her elbow on the drive wheel of the machine. I?ve got my hand on her shoulder. I?ve got a dindli [Austrian fashion - dirndl] dress on. After my grandfather's death, his two sons, Pali and my father, took over the running of the Nagykorosi company. The business was successful up until 1941. Then the company went bankrupt. The competition ruined it. There was another wholesaler in Nagykoros, the Benedek company. This Benedek firm, who also wholesaled wine, ruined my father, when in one year, that my father also sold wine, they let theirs go for such a low price that my father couldn't sell his, and they were left with all their wine. They lost everything. They had to auction off the house, the horses, the truck, everything we had.
