This is Mair Albuhaire, my husband Jack's brother. He was sent to the Military Academy in Veliko Turnovo instead of to the front. He became an officer and later was ranked colonel. His wife Maria, next to him, is a historian. She was director of the ?Georgi Dimitrov? museum. The picture was taken at the time of either their engagement or their wedding, in 1948 or 1949. Maria is from a village near Veliko Turnovo where it was a tradition to make presents on the wedding day. Their gifts are hanging on their shoulders.
