Jackos and Zermain Abravanel

This is a picture of Zermain and Jackos Abravanel, Alberto Abravanel’s children. Their sister was called Lilika and they had another brother called Gaston. Poor Gaston died at Hirsch hospital. He had a high fever and they did not manage to save him. Difficult times, many children died.

This picture was taken in a studio, in the 1930s. It was a common thing at the time for wealthy families to have pictures of their wedding taken, or of their children playing with toys and wearing their best clothes. There were two studios in Thessaloniki, Fotolikides, who was a Christian, and Michel, who was a Jew. I assume this picture was taken at Michel’s studio. After World War II Alberto’s family moved to Israel and we kept writing to each other. Zermain got married to her cousin, Moise Abravanel.
