The Haguel family

This picture was taken in 1935 in Thessalonica.

It was taken in a studio and it shows my mother’s sister Laura with her husband David Haguel and their son Jacob. We used to call Jacob, Vico back then.

David Haguel was a son of Ha Giako Haguel, the great rabbi of bet din.

The bet din was the supreme Jewish court, and I remember that when the rabbi died the whole community was really shocked; he was a very important figure at the time.

Laura joined us with her husband and their two sons and we all sat together around the traditional Pesach table.

Unfortunately, Laura, David, Jacob and his little brother Mony were taken to the concentration camps and did not return.
