Alexander Ugolev and his dance partner

This photo was taken in the 1990s, in the House of Officers. I don’t remember who took it. Here I am photographed together with my permanent dance partner Nona Andreevna Gavrilyuk - she wears a smart ball dress. We always looked good together. She was a very interesting and striking woman. To tell the truth, all my partners were very interesting.

It was a usual dancing evening, but each evening of that kind was a real holiday for dancers-performers. We tried to dress for these evenings like actors from Western films. I used to put on special dancing trousers made from cotton fabric of special kind: in the light of lamps the fabric sparkled like snake skin.

Though at that time I was already married, I tried to miss no dancing evening to feel young and athletic. My wife Elena rarely accompanied me. She thought that she danced badly and she was too shy to study it even using my assistance.
