The honeymoon of Margita Steinerova and Jozef Steiner

The honeymoon of Margita Steinerova and Jozef Steiner

This is a honeymoon photograph of my parents, Margita Steinerova, nee Abrahamova, and Jozef Steiner, taken on 28th May 1932. They are in a gondola in Venice, Italy, wearing their swimming suits. My father came from a huge family; he had nine siblings: Nely, Wilhelm, Moritz, Siegfried, Esperance, Max, Margit, Gustav and Josefine. My father was born in 1895 in Bratislava, Slovakia, then Austria-Hungary. He became the owner of the Steiner bookshop along with his brother Max. He ended his life in the Holocaust in Auschwitz concentration camp in 1942. My mother Margita Abraham was born in 1907 in Banovce nad Bebravou, which was in Austria-Hungary at the time. She had a twin sister Irena. I have to say that I was never really close to my mother. She never had time for me, so I do not know much about her. My mother also died in Auschwitz in 1942.
