Coachman at the Doubravice estate, where relatives of Helena Kovanicova lived

In this photograph is Mr. Janda with a carriage in front of the Vohryzeks' house inside the estate courtyard in Doubravice, near Teplice in northeastern Bohemia. My father's siblings and their families owned a farm here. Mr Janda was a coachman who my father's brother, Josef Munk had brought in to help out, because they knew each other from World War I, when they were together in the legion in Russia. When we went to Doubravice to visit, Mr. Janda would always come to the train with a coach, or in the winter with a sleigh. Later, before the war, our relatives from Doubravice bought a car, I think it was a Renault. We couldn't all fit into it, so the young people went to the farm on foot, and the older ones rode.
