The birth of Nisim Gadol

The birth of Nisim Gadol

This is a picture from the birth of my cousin Nisim Gadol, who is the son of my youngest maternal aunt Paola Gadol, nee Elazar. The photo was taken in Sofia in the 1930s. My aunt's husband Solomon Gadol is on the left, next to him is his sister Klara who had left for Israel before her brother and she used to work at two places there so that she could keep a workplace for her brother. So when my uncle Solomon arrived there he went to work straightaway. My aunt Paola and uncle Solomon were interned to Razgrad in 1943. She left all her home furniture to her neighbours to keep it then but they didn't give anything back to her when she returned to Sofia. A midwife assisted in my cousin's birth - he was born in my aunt's house on Hristo Botev Blvd in Sofia where they lived under rent. Nisim later got married to a French woman.
