Renee Saltiel und Solon Molho wuchsen in Salonika (Thessaloniki), der ehemals größten sephardisch-jüdischen Gemeinde der Welt auf. In der Hochphase lebten hier etwa 90.000 Jüd*innen, vor dem Krieg waren es 50.000, doch im Zweiten Weltkrieg ließen die Deutschen die Juden der Stadt deportieren. Nur wenige überlebten und kehrten nach Salonika zurück. Diese Geschichte erzählt, wie zwei Juden Salonikas dank eines spanischen Diplomaten und einiger mutiger griechischer Familien überlebten, und nach dem Krieg in ihre Heimatstadt zurückkehrten.
