Magdalena Berger's husband Ivan Berger as a child
My husband Ivan Berger is pictured in the background in his room. In the foreground is his father Sigmund's study and desk. The picture was taken in the house of the Berger family in the village of Torda in Banat, Serbia around 1930. My husband came from a rural Jewish family that was not at all religious. He had a drastically different upbringing than I did. For example, his father was inclined to drink a lot, and socialized with the local gypsies, things that my father never did.

The Centropa Collection at USHMM

The Centropa archive has been acquired by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. USHMM will soon offer a Special Collections page for Centropa.
