Ilie Herscu
This is my father's brother, Ilie Herscu. The picture was taken in Iasi in the 1930s. My father, Burah Herscu, had two brothers and a sister. Ilie was born in 1906. He was a grain merchant, like my father. he married a woman named Reghina who was from Campulung la Tisa [Northwestern Bukovina] and spoke German fluently. I can tell you that she, her sister and mother stayed in Campulung and were deported to Transnistria; her mother died there and her sister returned.

The Centropa archive has been acquired by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC.
