This is my father-in-law Iacob Behar (sitting) with fellow Jewish soldiers in 1918, during World War I. I have no information about the other two men. Bulgarian Jews took active part in the Balkan Wars and in World War I. Many of them were presented with medals for bravery.
My husband, Jacquelen Iacob Behar, was born on 3rd February 1926 in Sofia. His family wasn't rich - they were workers. They weren't religious. His father entered the socialist movement right after World War I. During the Holocaust his family was interned to Vratsa.
