Max Uri -- Wie ich Frieda wiederfand

Max Uri wuchs in Wien auf und erzählt, wie er sich in Frieda Haber aus Klagenfurt verliebte. Max und Frieda lernten sich in einem jüdischen Sommerlager kennen und trafen sich im darauffolgenden Sommer zufällig an der Adria wieder.

Doch nach dem Anschluss Österreichs an das nationalsozialistische Deutschland im März 1938 floh Max nach Palästina. Max zweifelte daran, Frieda jemals wiederzusehen - bis er eines Tages eine Straße in Tel Aviv entlangging...

Im August 2009 erlag Max Uri einer langen Krankheit. Das Wiener Centropa-Team und seine Freunde werden ihn sehr vermissen.

Die hier präsentierten zwölf Unterrichtsentwürfe richten sich speziell an Berufsschulen. Sie basieren auf den Kurzfilmen von Centropa, sowie der DVD „Das Vermächtnis“ von _erinnern.at_ und kreisen um österreichisch-jüdische Lebensgeschichten des 20. Jahrhunderts. Die SchülerInnen werden eingeladen, sich mit der Geschichte dieser Menschen auseinanderzusetzen, und diese mit ihrer eigenen Geschichte, ihren eigenen Interessen und Fragen in Beziehung zu setzen.Der Unterrichtsentwurf basiert auf der Auseinandersetzung mit biographischen Texten sowie der Beschäftigung mit dem dreiminütigen Centropa-Film über Max Uri.  		de
Max Uri: Viennese Jewry in the 1930s
History
In this lesson, students will learn about early Zionism and Jewish life in Austria in the first part of the 20th Century. Students will engage themselves with materials on the Nuremberg Laws, the Anchluss, Kristallnacht (November Pogrom), and the American response to Jewish immigration from Europe in the 1930s. Students will focus on the importance of physical culture engendered by Zionist Max Nordau and the concept of 'Muskeljuden'.  Students will use the sporting club Hakoah Vienna (“The Strength” in Hebrew) as a case study.  Using Centropa videos, students will learn about rising anti-Semitism in Austria, and the personal experiences of Jews during the Anchluss and Kristallnacht. Students will encounter material about the US response to Jewish immigrants from Europe and subsequent Jewish migration to Palestine, Shanghai, and England.  		en 10

In this lesson students will use a variety of the written stories from the Centropa website to gain an individualized and specific perspective on the events of Kristallnacht.  Students will also gain insight into the power of multimedia presentations of personal stories.  		en 11

Using the Centropa film "Max Uri -Looking for Frieda", which is a touching love story, together with Emily Dickinson's poem "I Held a Jewel", you can expose your students to learning history, poetry and culture.Through an individual life story of a couple falling in love and then being separated by the war, your students will experience and learn about Jewish life in Vienna prior to WWII.The poem is used as an analogy to love, or to what is meaningful in life . 		en 11
