Iren Molnar

Iren Molnar

This picture was taken in 1956 in Sydney and my mother, Iren Molnar, nee Katz, is in it. In 1950, after the second unsuccessful attempt to immigrate my mother was sentenced to 3 years and 8 months of prison, of which she served 2 years and 6 months. She got to the women's prison in Kalocsa, and she worked at the dressmaker's shop of the prison. In 1956 the entire family immigrated to Australia. My mother worked first at the clothes factory of my father-in-law, then she cooked Hungarian food at the milk bar of my brother Peter. Later she didn't have to work anymore.
