Centropa is proud to announce the launch of Mapping Jewish Memory!
"Mapping Jewish Memory" brings teachers, university and school students together from Germany, Greece, Hungary, Austria, Poland, Serbia and Croatia to learn more about 20th century Jewish history. Our aim is to strengthen European Holocaust remembrance by mapping historically significant sites related to the Holocaust and Jewish life before and after the war. These sites will be enriched by Centropa’s extensive archive of interviews and photographs.
While taking into account the EU Strategy on Combating Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life, the project brings together transnational and microhistorical approaches and reinforces them with digital skills, using interactive applications and collaborative platforms such as Padlet.
Through a series of workshops, we will create new pathways for Holocaust education by developing educational tools better tailored to the needs of young people today. We will also among many other skills, enhance digital and storytelling skills. In each country, the project partners will organize a series of interactive events, such as in situ workshops for university students and school students and a national commemoration event in each project country, which will include film screenings and historical walking tours. Two transnational teacher training seminars and one transnational youth competition will ensure a European dimension and that the project outputs will be shared across borders.
One of the main project outputs of Mapping Jewish Memory will be a multimedia map, created collaboratively by project partners, university students,
school students, and teachers. This map will feature AudioWalks, short films, and illustrated storyboards focused on significant Jewish
sites of memory. These contributions are designed to provide a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of European
Holocaust remembrance while fostering digital literacy and civic engagement.
Project partners are: Centropa Germany, Centropa Hungary, Centre for Education Policy, HERMES, Galicia Jewish Museum, University of Patras, Jewlif and the Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance (DÖW) as well as the associated partners Leibniz Institute for Contemporary History (IfZ), EHRI and AEPJ and is generously funded by the European Commission .
