The year 2025 marked 80 years since the end of World War II and 35 years since the German reunification - two pivotal moments in European and Jewish history. What better place to reflect on these events than Berlin, a city that embodies both memory and transformation?
While we look back to the past, we must also observe the fact that in October, two years will have passed since the tragic and devastating attacks of October 7th, where many lives were lost in violence initiated by Hamas against the people of Israel.
The impact of this war can be felt far beyond the borders of the Middle East. Here in Germany, Austria, Hungary, the United States, and across Europe, we have witnessed a disturbing rise in antisemitism, which has emboldened extremist voices, including Holocaust denial and the spread of disinformation.
At Centropa, we want to confront this with unwavering commitment. We believe history offers lessons - which is why we are bringing together educators from Germany and Israel, hoping to foster cross-border dialogue and cooperation in education.
