Das Interview mit Larry Anzhel fand im Jänner 2006 statt, kurz bevor er starb. Während der sechs Treffen, bei denen uns Larry über sein Leben erzählt hat, saß stets seine Frau Rosa neben ihm und hielt seine Hand. Gemeinsam haben sie ein Bild davon gezeichnet, wie es war in einer Zeit und an einem Ort zu leben als, wie Larry sagte "das Leben seinen eigenen, biologischen Rhythmus hatte".
Als sich Larry und Rosa während des zweiten Weltkriegs kennenlernten, mussten sie anfangs ihre Zuneigung und später auch ihre Heirat verheimlichen. Larry musste sogar einige Zeit in einem Zwangsarbeitslager verbringen, von wo er schließlich jedoch fliehen konnte, genau wie Rosas Vater.
Nach dem Krieg zog der Großteil der bulgarischen Juden nach Israel, aber Larry und Rosa blieben in ihrer Heimat, zogen ihre Kinder dort groß und als das kommunistische Regime 1989 zusammenbrach, nahmen sie wieder am jüdischen Gesellschaftsleben teil.

| "20th Century Europe, as seen from Palestine-Israel" History Students will learn about historical events that took place in Europe in the 20th century, and see how those events were covered by newspapers in mandatory Palestine and (after 1948) Israel. After that, the students will interview one or more family members/friends who were alive at the time of the events. The students' findings will be presented in a paper and a video.The basic idea for this project was discussed by David Behrman, Victor Gurevich, and Yonathan Bar-On at the Centropa Winter Seminar, 10-11 December 2012. A basic lesson plan was then worked out by David Behrman and Yonathan Bar-On, each of whom adapted it for the specific needs of his class(es) and lessons. |
