Awesome Day!

Today was our last day in Vienna with CSA 2016!  I can honestly say, I have never seen a more beautiful city.  I am very grateful to Centropa for allowing me to have this incredible experience.  Being that it is my first time in Europe, today was definitely the icing on the cake.  As an American History teacher, the visit to the Museum of Military History was a highlight on the trip today.  Seeing Archduke Franz Ferdinand's car brought all of the images and documentaries I have seen to life!   I cannot wait to share my photos with my students when I teach

centropa 2016 - some thoughts about the beginning

Dear  Centropa members

It is so very surprising to see so many teachers willing to spend there summer time vacation to deal with not very easy issues . The main idea expressd by many of us was the will to teach our students to see the other, to open there eyes to other ways of living, and to deal with the complexity of human history, especally the sad hstory of the twentieth century.

For me learning and teaching  about  the holocaust is an obligation one can not escape from, despite the pain.

Emotional

Today we've had a very emotional and inspiring meeting with Irene Bartz. Holocaust survivor from Vienna. She speaks Polish (her mother was from Krakow ) as if she had never left Poland. I do hope Irene  will come to Wroclaw.

Centropa Summer Academy (2016)

This summer, I was given the amazing opportunity to attend Centropa's 10th Summer Academy. Our whirlwind of days in Vienna have been filled with a walking tour of the city, visits to various museums, lectures, panel discussions, meeting with elderly Viennese Jews and working together with other teachers to create lessons plans.  I am so impressed by the knowledge and skills of all the participants and Centropa staff. I was particularly intrigued by the lectures and panel discussions from our Tuesday sessions.
