We settled down in a small room at a private house. My mother began to work at the canteen. She could take leftovers that saved us from starving to death. We had food cards, but all we received was 250 grams of bread per day and that was not enough.  I was always hungry,  I went to bed and woke up in the morning feeling hungry.
