My mother didn’t work, although my father received a small salary. My parents couldn’t afford a housemaid or a nanny, although many families had aid at that time. My mother’s sister Rosa moved in with us in 1936. The four of us shared one room and another room belonged to the family of Abrasha Shteinberg.  They didn’t pay for it.
