My parents hardly ever left town. Father started a business in Novozybkov. What else could you expect of a Jew at that time? He manufactured hempseed oil, installed the corresponding equipment for that purpose, and sold the oil. Then in 1925 there was a fire, I do not know how it happened or why. The business burned down and we lost much of our fruit garden too. Someone had set fire, I think, out of envy. Before the fire the family had enough money, everything was good. And now we had to survive somehow.
