He spoke Yiddish as well, and I bear a grudge against him for not teaching me, because it is also an international language, like Esperanto. This was typical of Jewish families: children weren’t supposed to understand what the grown-ups were talking about.

My mother didn’t speak Yiddish, they spoke in Hungarian, but my father talked with his parents in Yiddish.
