During the Holocaust she was interned to Vratsa [see Internment of Jews in Bulgaria] [3]. Jews were interned to the northern part of Bulgaria, because the authorities planned to annihilate them and it was easier to send them to the German concentration camps by the Danube. My mother didn't usually wear a kerchief, except during the years when they started to intern us.
