My brother Marko used to live with us, too, until 1942 or 1943, until the internment [of Jews in Bulgaria] [16] during the Holocaust. We used to live very modestly. The rooms we inhabited were very small, in the attic. We had a room, kitchen and corridor furnished with a table, bed, and chairs. We didn’t even have a wardrobe or cupboard.
