Father served in the army, the Austrian [Austro-Hungarian] army, during World War I, so maybe it left him with some ideas. But I don’t know anything of that matter. Besides, Father was a serious man, with a house, children, wife, he had to provide his family with daily bread instead of playing politics. I know there was [was active in the town] the Bund [1]. I also know the craftsmen had their organization. The workers were rather leftist. But I can’t say the political issues were ever discussed at home.
