When we arrived in Belgrade we moved into an apartment on Jovanov Street,
in Mr. Alkalaj's house. We had a beautiful three-room apartment with floor-
by-floor heating. My father had a shop on Visnjicev Street in the Jovanov
market. This was considered the Jewish market because all the shops were
owned by Jews. There were four other brothers and one sister in the same
market. We lived very well without problems. With respect to the country
itself, Jews had full rights. I did not experience any anti-Semitism
personally, nor did my family. This is because the Serbs were always
inclined to be friendly to Jews.
