And Rabbi Szmelkes used to come, who never managed to teach us anything. He would teach us Hebrew letters, the history of Jews. When he wanted to test a student, he would call her up, and hug and hold her. But we didn’t realize what it was back then, naturally. And that’s the way it was, because everyone had to have a grade on the report.
