As far as the Jewish traditions are concerned, everything was standard: a Jewish kosher house with everything that needs to be there. Maybe occasionally, at the times of unemployment and poverty, we did not observe the kashrut, but otherwise, there was ‘mychlik,' that is, dairy foods [Yiddish: milkhik - milk products], ‘fleiszik' [Yiddish: Fleishik - meat products] and ‘parowe' [Yiddish: parve], neither meat nor milk, for example herring. There was a separate case for ‘Pajsach' [Pesach]. Some of the cutlery was koshered; one boiled water in the yard. If the aluminum pot was not chipped the whole pot could be koshered there. I know that was observed.
