'In the Footsteps of European Jewish Women' - traveling exhibition and peer-guide training

The exhibition In the Footsteps of European Jewish Women presents the diverse history of European Jews in the 20th century through the personal stories of women from Hungary, Germany, Poland, Greece, Spain, Slovakia, and Czechia.

These stories are not only about persecution, deportation, and escape, but also about survival and rebuilding life after the Holocaust and the Second World War. Visitors will gain insight into what it was like to grow up in a Jewish family before the war, with memories of love, school, and everyday hopes and struggles brought vividly to life.

The exhibition is easy to transport and consists of 15 roll-up panels (85 × 200 cm). The HerStories project website (https://www.her-stories.eu/hu) features the life stories on which the exhibition is based, in Hungarian, English, and five other languages, accompanied by archival photographs.

Bring the exhibition to your school—with peer-guide training!
Becoming a student tour guide is a unique and rewarding experience: instead of passively viewing the exhibition, students take an active role by leading their classmates through it, highlighting the stories and themes that speak to them most personally. In doing so, they explore key aspects of 20th-century history while developing valuable presentation and communication skills.

The peer-guide training is conducted by Centropa staff for groups of 8–14 students in grades 9–12. The interactive training lasts one school day (approximately seven hours, including breaks) and can count toward the School Community Service requirement. During the session, students dive into the biography of one of the featured women and use their creativity to prepare a short tour to present to their peers.

Exhibition duration: 3–4 weeks
Training duration: 1 school day
Target group: Grades 9–12
