Railroad ticket from Rathenow station

Railroad ticket from Rathenow station

This is a railroad ticket from the Rathenow station, 28 kilometers far from Berlin, to the station of Berlin. It was bought in April 1945. We fought in Berlin at that time.

I fought most of the war time within the 22nd shooting division, then the 82nd Red Banner Division. It fought in the central front, and I spent most of the war in the Smolensk region. First we liberated the Smolensk region, then the city of Smolensk. Later on we fought both at the Baltic front, and at the First Belarus front. We liberated the Belovezhskaya Puscha. Our division was awarded the order of Kutuzov, it is normally an order given to military leaders, military units are rarely granted this award.

At the end of the war we entered Berlin. We finished the war on the Elba, where we met American troops. I finished the war as a sergeant. In 1944, at the front, I joined the Communist Party. I was demobilized in November 1945.
