Postcard sent by Alexandru Popper

Postcard sent by Alexandru Popper

This funny postcard represents two students, who are sitting for an exam. My father, Sandor Popper sent it to my mother, before they got married, in 1914.

The following message is written on the postcard: ‘Charming stranger. God knows I didn’t take the examination yet, I don’t have any guardian angel, but I envy Popper, he won’t see such a photo again. And he’s got the luck to know the beautiful Gitta Werner.’ ‘I must have been such a stupid chap when I couldn’t think of the answer. Ugh!!! I don’t even like to recall this.’ ‘To celebrate my successful examination we broached a big barrel, and now we’re drinking to your health. Hurrah!!! Love from: Karoly Balog, … Hajdus, Sandor Popper.’
