Marta Wellis

Marta Wellis

This photo was taken in Novi Sad January 25, 1937. Marta Wellis, my wife’s cousin is seen here, who lived in Novi Sad. My wife’s aunt, Ilona Weisz was her mother and Emil Wellis was her father. Following the Hungarian invasion, the entire family was shot in the head. The Hungarians executed them during the ‘cold days’[see: Novi Sad massacre]. They were very happy about the presence of the Hungarian soldiers, then it soon turned to regret. It cost them their lives.
