This is my husband's father, at left, in a civilian outfit. His name was Haim Portnoy. His friend is in a military uniform, but I have no information about him. The photo was taken in Warsaw, before the October Revolution.
Haim and his wife, Sheindl Portnaya, were very religious people. I didn't know Haim: he died during the war in the evacuation. Sheindl always attended synagogue and had a seat there. She celebrated all the Jewish holidays. We visited her frequently, and I learned about the Jewish holidays from her.
