Faina Khorunzhenko's father Lev Levinson in the company of his Jewish friends

My father Lev Levinson in the company of his Jewish friends. The photo was taken in 1917 in Novoukrainka. My father is standing on the right, next to him is Haim Zolotarev. His friends Yefim and Bentsion are sitting. My father was born in Novoukrainka in 1885. He graduated from the College of Commerce and worked as an economist in the system of central work cooperatives. Our financial situation was not bad: there were no super incomes, but it was enough for us to live on. My father was very elegant. He was even called a dandy. Back then people bought everything in private stores. It was the New Economic Policy. Lenin introduced it after 1921. Private capital was allowed in commerce and light industry but not in heavy industry. My parents had a lot of friends, both among the Jews and other nationalities.
