I don?t know when exactly this picture was taken, sometime in the 1910s, I think. It shows my paternal grandfather, who was called Abram Pikielny, in Lodz. He was born in 1865 in Yeremiche. Grandpa Pikielny died in 1923, that is before I was born. From what I've heard he had his brothers come from the Nowogrodek area to Lodz. He and his brother Jochel launched a manufacturing company, which operated in Lodz up till 1927 under the name Jochel Pikielny & Heirs to Abram Pikielny. That same year, the A. & J. Pikielny Textile Industry Joint-Stock Company was established in Lodz. It was to incorporate all the assets and debts and continue the first company's operations. A branch of the company was opened in 1928 in Zdunska Wola. My father's brother Henryk was the manager of that factory.

The Centropa archive has been acquired by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC.
