For the transnational project “Building Bridges”, 60 high school students from Ukraine, Germany, Poland and Moldova connected with each other through Jewish family stories of the 20th century. Under the guidance of Centropa, teenagers from Chernivtsi, Kyiv, Miesbach, Chisinau, Tomaszów Lubelski researched life stories from the archive of Centropa and co-created this unique exhibition. From November 2024 to May 2025 these students not only build bridges between their countries, but also between past, current and future generations.
Through the personal stories portrayed in this exhibition, our young curators convey the diversity of European Jewish life in the 20th century through the biographies of seven Jewish women from Ukraine, Germany, Moldova and Poland. As the year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary since the end of the Second World War, this exhibition focusses mainly on the war and post-war experiences of these Jewish women. We hope you enjoy this exhibition, which was underwritten by the German Foreign Office, and conducted in cooperation with the Galicia Jewish Museum, the Jewish Museum of Moldova and Insha Osvita.
