Teacher training seminar in Szeged, Hungary

Behind the historical events and tragedies of the 20th century, behind the numbers and data, there lay individual lives and human destinies. By gaining insight into individual life stories, the history that connects us all became easier to understand and experience.

During the 30-hour accredited teacher training organized by Centropa Hungary, we provided professional support - through educational materials and methodologies - for teaching the history of Jewish communities and the Holocaust, as well as for implementing projects that encourage active student engagement. We welcomed applications from primary and secondary school teachers to this training.

During the seminar, we:

  • explored the Jewish heritage of Szeged, its past and present;
  • took part in a Shabbat reception and introduced the related Jewish traditions;
  • presented personal stories from the Centropa archive along with the educational tools and methods connected to them;
  • listened to the best practices of experienced Centropa teachers;
  • collaboratively developed new teaching materials;
  • introduced Centropa’s travelling exhibitions and its educational programs for students, including trainings, workshops, and city walks.
