20th Century Lithuanian Jewish history and the Holocaust. A Centropa training seminar for Lithuanian educators

Over the course of three days, participants engaged in group work and a workshop using the newly translated biography of Chasia Spanerflig materials to develop hands-on lesson units, and discussed and shared how they already used Centropa educational materials – Centropa's Lithuanian exhibition, the film about Ranana Malkhanova, Centropa's biographies and photos, and the Jewish Vilnius AudioWalk – in their educational contexts. We also offered guided visits to the Sugihara House Museum and the Fort IX. Museum, organized a lecture on 'The roots of the Anti-Semitism in Lithuania' by Dr. Linas Venclauskas, and gave participants the chance to discuss with Hadas Wittenberg Silverstein, the Israeli Ambassador to Lithuania, and with Gercas Žakas, chairman of the Jewish community in Kaunas. Furthermore, Asia Gutermanaite took participants on a guided walking tour on interwar Jewish life in Kaunas. Centropa would like to thank our Lithuanian project coordinator, Ingrida Vilkiene, for the successful and pleasant cooperation, and the Claims Conference and the EU Commission for making this seminar possible.
