Mária Lieberman
Dr. Mária Lieberman is an expert in informal education and Jewish heritage, with a PhD in Russian Language and Literature and Art History from Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in Hungary. Trained as a teacher in both disciplines, she combines her academic background with extensive experience in education, cultural heritage, and international cooperation. Her previous professional experience includes working at National Geographic Magazine, the Hungarian Ministry of Education and Culture, and, for more than ten years, the Central European University.
Since joining Centropa in 2022, Mária has served as Director of Centropa Hungary and Director of the Centropa Jewish Network (CJN), which connects Jewish schools across Europe. She leads educational programmes and develops networks that connect educators and students in Hungary, Israel, and Jewish schools throughout Europe. She has played a key role in strengthening teacher networks in Hungary and across Europe through professional development opportunities and collaborative educational initiatives. She designs and leads local and international seminars, workshops, and training programmes, equipping educators with innovative approaches to teaching Jewish history, heritage, and the Holocaust. Her work also creates opportunities for students to engage with the past through family stories, photographs, and peer-to-peer learning.
She is passionate about informal education and Jewish heritage, and one of her core values is preserving Jewish communities and heritage for future generations.
