Youth projects
Over the past year, 72 teenagers and 7 young artists from Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Serbia and Croatia have been hard at work in our iMemory project.
They conducted interviews with Jewish Holocaust survivors and their descendants, produced social-media clips, and created 3D artworks exploring Jewish life in Europe.
German Interviews
Margarita Davidova
Margarita Davidova survived the Siege of Leningrad as a child along with her mother. Project participants contrasted this Freiburg biography with the Centropa story of Mark Epstein, a sniper and "war hero," exploring a central question: What or who actually is a hero? Are there male and female hero archetypes – and can a sniper even be a hero?
Micky Drill
We were very pleased to be given the opportunity to contact Micky Drill, one of Holocaust Survivor Rosa Rosenstein's grandsons. Micky was very open, and we were able to interview him several times via Zoom. These conversations touched not only on specific issues affecting the second generation, but also on matters concerning the relationship between Germany and Israel.

Ella Madei
An interview with Ella Madei, a young artist from the Chernivtsi Jewish community, filmed on St. Mary’s Square in Chernivtsi, Ukraine. Ella reflects on her artistic practice, personal values, and the dialogue between the city’s layered history and its present day.
Shapsa Averbukh
Interview with Shapsa Averbukh, head of the Jewish community in Chernivtsi, filmed at the Israel Synagogue in Chernivtsi, Ukraine. He reflects on the future of Ukraine and the Jewish people who live there, shares the memories of his family, and talks about what inspires him in life.

Barbara Bartosik
Barbara Bartosik, a relative of Zofia Posmysz, gives us a fascinating account of “Szrajberka z Auschwitz” (The Scrivener of Auschwitz) while talking about the horrifying living conditions in concentration camps. This meeting coincided with the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the camp.
Józef Komem Flakowicz
Józef Komem Flakowicz talks about his wartime experiences - the meeting with the author took place at the Main Library of the Adam Asnyk Municipal Public Library in Kalisz.
Serbian interviews
Ida Labudović
Ida Labudović shared with us the difficult and deeply moving story of her grandmother Sofija Demajo, who survived the Second World War. Her testimony reminded us of the unimaginable terror families faced and the strength it took to endure those times.
Hannah Gašić Montiljo
Hana Gašić-Montiljo shared her family’s remarkable story of surviving the Second World War in Sarajevo. She spoke about the courage and humanity that saved her father’s life, and with it, the life of her entire family.
Croatian interviews
Tena Korkut
Tena Korkut offers a detailed and fascinating insight into the history of her family, her city and her community. She shares the story of her great grandfather, musician David Meisel, as well as other prominent Jewish figures who contributed to the development of Karlovac.
Tatjana Protulipac
Seasoned educator Tatjana talks about her work on preserving Jewish history with Tena, she shares insight on anti-semitism, historical revisionism, the importance of keeping history alive and the challenges educators face in recent times. She provides valuable insights on how community led efforts and interactive teaching can foster a culture of remembrance.
